Why you must presell
The most important thing you can do to increase your affiliate commissions is to presell properly.
First, what is preselling? Preselling is both an art and a science. It’s a process of taking your reader and getting them ready to buy. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. When done correctly, your reader will not even notice.
The gist is that you give your reader some useful information. And then refer them to the product website. In just a minute, I’ll explain exactly how to presell. Before we get into that, you should understand what’s in it for you. Here are a few benefits of preselling:
- Preselling creates trust - Once you have your readers’ trust, they will click your links more readily. And the more clicks you get the more sales you’ll make.
- It disarms your reader - Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. Unguarded reading means they’re not filtering what you say. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
- It creates buying readiness - Now they trust you and feel open to your message. So they become more receptive to other messages. This includes the sales website you send them to! Being open to a sales message is what it means being in a buying mood.
- It increases your sales - You’ve prepped them and referred them in the right state of mind. Open to the sales message and feeling safe. The only thing that can result is increased sales!
- Your customers are happier - People like to make their own buying decisions. Versus being pitched or convinced. And this leads to greater satisfaction with the product.
- It boosts your profits - A satisfied customer doesn’t ask for a refund. And that translates to more commission staying in your affiliate business.
Clearly preselling makes sense. You earn more commissions. And produce happier customers. Everybody wins!
How does it work?
Now you know whey preselling is critical. And hopefully you’re convinced you need to start doing it. You’re ready to learn how to do it properly. As I mentioned earlier, it’s both an art and a science.
Becoming an artist
First, you have to gain the trust of your reader, so they let their guard down. Honestly, the only way to do this is to provide real value in you content. The art of this is to provide enough information to be of value, but not enough to satiate the hunger. The idea is that they want more and the sales page you send them to gives them more. Plus they’re not guarded, so they’re more open and likely to purchase the product.
The science component
You also have to include some very specific things.
First of all, it’s important HOW you present your information. You need to know where you’re going before you begin. Your goal is to sell the product you’re promoting. You use the information to do this in one of two ways. One way is to give them enough info to whet the appetite, but not enough to satisfy it. The second way is to provide all the information and let your reader discover how hard it is to actually implement it. Whichever method, you send them to a product website that solves the problem you just created.
But you can’t link to your affiliate link. Instead, you use a direct link to the product website. That’s because nobody likes to click on affiliate links. But how are you going to get credit for the sale, if you don’t include your affiliate link? There’s a trick to make this work… You “pre-cookie” your reader before sending them to the sales page.
Next, you want to make sure you’re linking on related words and phrases. Hyperlinked words are clicked more than anything else. And if the words you hyperlink relate, your reader will naturally click them for more information.
Putting all of this together creates a powerful affiliate marketing formula for success.
OK, here’s the not-so-good news:
It’s extremely difficult to do this correctly. Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Good content. First of all, you actually have to write great articles and give value to your readers. Which means you need to be both knowledgable on the subject and capable of writing a high-quality article. Preselling skills. Yes, you must providing useful content. But, you also need to know how to present the information in a way that give value to the reader. And somehow also make them want to learn more. The other approach is to reveal a self-evident problem through the information.
Product selection. Next, you’ve got to pick the right product to presell. Even if you get the article written. You’ve wasted all your effort if the product doesn’t sell well.
The technical know-how And finally, you need the technical know-how to embed your image tag and make sure you get credit for the sale. This is actually pretty simple – just embed a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image and set your affiliate link as the “source” of the image. (But if you mess it up, your referrals won’t be tracked.)
In closing:
Now you know what it takes to be a Presell Pro. And doing this increases your affiliate commissions by over 500%! The important thing is to use these techniques for everything you promote as an affiliate. Don’t wait another minute. Make the extra effort required to propel your affiliate business to the next level.
