So what is Social Bookmarking?

I’ll admit, when I first heard of the term I wasn’t quite sure other than it had something to do with soical marketing. I knew about the social part, but… bookmarking?

So I started to look for more information (via the net as usual) and articles written about Social Bookmarking and I came up with lots of information and articles. So, instead of me writing about something that I wasn’t familiar with or hadn’t used before, I thought what the heck, why not give credit where credit is due.

So here is an article on Social Bookmarking written by Vanessa A. Doctor, I have no idea who she is, but I thought her article covered the basics of Social Bookmarking quite well without going into a lot of detail.

The Basics of Social Bookmarking…

For those who are quite savvy on the Internet, business bookmarking is quite easy to understand, since they would know the basic concepts that come with it. But for those who are still new at this, then they will be having quite a problem in understanding its definition to be used to improve their online venture.

Before we can understand the truth about business bookmarking, we first need to be acquainted with the actual definition of bookmarking and social bookmarking. In most cases, bookmarking involves saving a Web site on your Web browser to be used later on. When we find a site that sparks our interest, we often tag that site so we don’t need to look it up next time we want to read its content.

Social and business bookmarking is one and the same, except for the fact that the latter uses social bookmarking as a business function. Social bookmarking involves tagging Web sites onto your own online bookmark page that can be viewed by anyone within your network. In fact, this method is being used to increase the traffic of many online businesses today as an Internet marketing strategy.

How To Start Business Bookmarking

When planning to implement business bookmarking as to improve your online venture, you first need to register to an online community that will serve as your bookmarking site. You need to keep in mind that you need to target communities that are concentrated more on business functions, rather than settling for any other social sites on the Internet.

After registering into the community, you first need to build up your contacts to further your online business. Start polishing your friendliness and start contacting people in the community to add them to your list; you might want to improve your bookmarking site to make it more interesting to these individuals so they will add you into their network of contacts on their own.

After you have added a large number of people into your business bookmarking network, you now need to start tagging sites that are relevant to your own venture. You can also start implementing strategies with other people in the community to tag each other’s site to increase both of your business potential. The more people that tag your site in a business bookmarking site, the bigger your online presence would become that would prove beneficial to your online business.
